Massage Courses Brandon Raynor Massage Therapist and Founder of Brandon Raynor's School of Natural Therapies

Brandon Raynor School Founder

Brandon Raynor’s Massage/ Bodywork Courses are a fast, very efficient and cost effective way to learn to massage. Our massage therapy school's short massage/bodywork courses enable you to get started working in just a matter of weeks.

hands on massage training and massage coursesBrandon Raynor’s School of Natural Therapies first started offering massage courses in Sydney, Australia 10 years ago. Since then our massage school has grown and we now offer massage and bodywork courses world wide in locations such as London, Dublin, Edinburgh, Auckland, Christchurch, Cape Town, Johannesburg, Durban, Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Ottawa, Montana, Singapore, Dubai and India. We have also expanded all over Australia to cities such as Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Brisbane, Darwin, the Gold Coast and Tasmania.

Our massage school is a very progressive and advanced massage school in our approach to massage and bodywork training as we have adopted our own unique approach to help our students to learn a very advanced and powerful form of massage in a simple and down to earth way. Our approach is to teach you everything you need to know to become not just a good massage therapist and bodyworker but an excellent massage therapist and bodyworker as quickly as possible

Our formula for teaching, which has proven so popular over the last 10 years and led us to grow from teaching our massage courses in our lounge room in Brisbane and Sydney, to being the only world wide massage school, is very intensive and very much a hands-on approach. It’s massaging, being massaged, or watching the teacher doing a demonstration massage from day 1.

Not only that, but our approach to massage training is different to other massage therapy schools. Most other massage therapy schools will teach extensive Latin terms for muscles for several weeks, then much later into the course, will start massaging in a very basic way usually getting the students to learn Swedish massage in a very simple general routine. Then they will learn therapeutic massage or remedial massage for several more weeks, then, near the end of the course they will learn a few aspects of deep tissue massage, trigger points, or kinesiology. A few rare massage courses will also cover some very basic oriental massage techniques such as Shiatsu, acupressure, or Thai massage.

In our massage courses what we do is take the best and most useful massage techniques from all the major styles of massage such as Swedish, therapeutic, deep tissue, acupressure, Shiatsu, Thai massage, Ayurvedic massage and Hawaiian Lomi Lomi massage and we combine these into one technique called Raynor massage. Naturopath Brandon Raynor has also added many of his own techniques to this style of massage. Raynor massage has the goal of finding every tight muscle in the body and loosening it and will use any massage or natural healing technique to achieve that goal.

Our school doesn't confuse the student by giving them irrelevant knowledge that will take their focus away from achieving that most important goal of getting rid of all muscle tension in the body. This is why we place a lot less emphasis on Latin anatomy and physiology terms than most massage schools.

massage student learning massage techniquesOur main emphasis in our teaching of massage therapy is to teach the students how to find muscle tightness in the body and how to get rid of it using whichever massage technique will work best to get rid of it. The best Shiatsu massage therapists in Japan, a country with a history of thousands of years of massage, were actually blind people. This shows the importance of learning to feel with your hands rather than see with your eyes or over analyze with your mind.

So what we do is teach people to find a tight muscle and then show the students that muscle tightness does not exist as a single muscle or tight spot but exists as a whole band or meridian of tension that can run from head to toe. So one point along a band needs to be loosened in order for the next point to let go, and so on.

Therefore the style of massage we teach could be considered a holistic style, emphasizing the inner connectedness of the body. We also demonstrate that in some people emotional stress can have a physical manifestation and, by getting rid of this physical manifestation, it can help alleviate or get rid of the emotional stress. This is more along the lines of massage from the East.

This is what makes up the core teachings of our massage school and will be found in our 5 day Raynor Massage Certificate Course and our 10 day Raynor Massage Diploma Course. The 5 day Raynor Massage Certificate Course is the foundation course for all of our teachings and knowledge of massage therapy. After completing this course, you will be able to do an excellent massage that could range from a light, gentle, nurturing treatment to a very deep tissue type of massage that will leave your most stressed-out client that a whole layer of stress and tension has been lifted from their shoulders.

hands on massage training and massage coursesOur 10 day Raynor Massage Diploma Course has the first 5 days of the Certificate Course, plus 5 more days of practical experience and applying our techniques. We also include a full day of learning the art of Reflexology, which is foot or hand massage that has a reflex action on other areas of the body. As well as this, we have a full day of Aromatherapy, which is the use of 100% natural essential oils mixed in with massage oils to enhance the benefits of the massage experience.

We also offer 5 day Thai Massage Certificate Course and 5 day Shiatsu Massage Certificate Courses. These courses focus solely on the relevant traditions and are taught in traditional ways. For example, the Shiatsu and Thai Massage Courses are taught on a Futon mattress on the floor rather than on a massage table. They are both done fully clothed and are great for clients that prefer a more modest form of massage. In addition, doing the massage on the floor, allows the practitioner to more effectively use their body weight and allows more techniques to be introduced. We offer our Shiatsu and our Thai Massage Courses in major cities such as London, Dublin, Toronto, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Auckland.

Because we keep our terminology easy to understand and we follow teaching methods that make advanced massage techniques easy to understand and very hands-on, there are no pre-requisites for any of our basic massage courses.

We design our massage courses to be more mature-age oriented vocational courses. The majority of participants in the course are aged 20 to 55, but we accept students from 16 until 80. There is usually a balance of male and female in most classes.

We especially design our massage and bodywork courses for people that want to get started with their new massage career as soon as possible and with as little interruption to their lives. We teach massage the way we would have liked to learn massage.

hands on massage training and massage coursesWe have designed our massage courses to have a practical approach to massage training rather than an intellectual approach. Some government and medical bureaucrats in different parts of the world have highly regulated the massage industry making it out of reach financially and time-wise for many every-day people to enter the industry. Therefore we have decided not to sacrifice the essence of how we believe good massage to be taught in order to fit into the massive variety of different regulations around the world. We don’t believe that the art of massage should be so inaccessible to so many people because of this over regulation as we believe it is essentially an inner desire to relieve others of their suffering and pain. Such regulations can be disheartening to those who are more practically rather than intellectually oriented and it is most usually practical, open-hearted people that make the best massage therapists. Therefore, we only teach our massage courses in locations where there are no or little government regulation of the massage industry. In this way, wherever our school holds one of our courses, you will still be able to practice.

Brandon Raynor has been a strong world-wide voice opposing bureaucratic over-regulation of the art of massage therapy which historically has had so many different approaches to both the practice and teaching of massage. For example, Thailand is world-recognized as a place where massage is a way of life and it is unregulated. There mostly uneducated women learn the practical aspects of massage continue through till old age, becoming better as they get more and more experience. In both Thai and Hawaiian massage, it is not knowledge of body terms in Latin that makes a good massage therapist, but the spirit of the heart (or Aloha in Hawaiian) which is the prime ingredient of a good massage therapy treatment.

Having said that, in almost all locations world-wide where we teach, graduates of our school will be able to get all the relevant malpractice insurance that will cover them when they are practicing. They will also be able to join the International Natural Therapies Association, receive a free newsletter, and receive a listing on their website.

We invite you to look through the school's website and contact us with any questions you may have.

We are constantly updating our courses and have added new courses recently, such as our Advanced Massage Diploma Course taught by the head of the School, Brandon Raynor. This is for past graduates of the School that want enhancement of their techniques and a personal fine tuning by the originator of Raynor massage.

In addition, we have introduced a 3 day Friends and Family Introductory Massage course and Aromatherapy Massage Courses and 2 day Reflexology Courses that allow people to get an economical introduction to our training methods while also learning a new skill.

Aloha and may you enjoy looking through the Brandon Raynor's School of Natural Therapies website.

Here is a testimonial from our first massage course in India in April 2008. I have left it in its original format that we received it in.

Hi Brandon,

This is unique because it's breathing process during the massage. This course is a very compact, more practical based, detailed, useful and the effective one.We had a Great trainer,Terry Masson. He was (is)so Friendly, cooperative, enthusiastic, lively, dedicated, knowledgeable And at last a Good Heart man.It is so much creditable For him that he had ran this course in a very smooth And friendly way despite of having certain obstacles In the country like, INDIA.

I was so lucky, getting the training of a Great massage technique through a very effective Massage course, from a great trainer.I was really into This course.

So, I am ready to walk along with you on The same way.

Thanking you.

Testimonial

Erica Morgan, Adelaide

April 2008

I have just completed my Certificate in Massage of the Raynor Technique in Adelaide. I found it to be extremely informative, encouraging and a lot of fun. John is an excellent teacher and I could not fault him. It didn’t matter if he had to explain it over and over again; he encouraged us until we mastered it. I did a lot of research beforehand about different courses (most of them were part time over a long period) but I wanted to start earning money, so this was fantastic way to do it. The type of massage taught is different to anything I have experienced – you walk away feeling wonderful, but it helps align your body as a whole at the same time. I would recommend this course to anyone without hesitation.
