What is in the two week Certificate + Diploma course?

Week One

During the morning of Day 1 of the course you will discover and discuss:

* The history of massage and the different types of massage.
* What the contraindications to massage are.
* How to take a case history from clients.
* Important hygiene issues to do with massage.
* You will learn how to drape your client to make them feel safe, warm and comfortable.
* The professional ethics expected by a Raynor Massage therapist will be outlined and we will explore the qualities of a good massage therapist.
* We will examine the tools of the trade looking at different types of base oils used in massage and the properties of a good massage table.

This will be followed by a demonstration of massage techniques by the teacher on a volunteer from the group and we will begin to explore strategies to loosen up tension and blocked energy in the back, the back of the legs, buttocks, feet, arms and hands.

You will also be shown the bands "of tension" that make these areas interconnected. In the afternoon, students will be asked to pair up and commence working on each other under the close supervision of our teacher, half way through the afternoon you will swap over so that each person in the pair both massaged and is massaged.

On Day 2, the massage teachers will cover the release of tension in the front of body, especially the abdominal area and the head. Many people store emotional tension in their bellies as revealed by common expressions such as "it gave me knots in my stomach" or "I felt that in my guts". Conditions such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome, ulcers, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, menstrual problems etc. can be helped by Brandon's techniques of releasing emotional tension stored in the abdominal area, combined with proper breathing techniques.

The teacher will again demonstrate on a (different) volunteer from the group how to massage to get this front of body tension release and in the afternoon you will pair up with a different person from the group to give and to experience this part of the massage.

A good massage therapist will learn as much from receiving a massage as they will from giving one, which is why we put emphasis on you receiving massage as well as giving it. You will learn how working to different depths feels and you will experience the powerful release of tension that your future clients will experience.

As you work, revision of the previous days work will also be covered and your teacher will also discuss on the concept of the release of toxins in the body and the natural therapies term "the healing crisis" and what it means to you as you practice Raynor Massage.

On Day 3 the teachers will cover a side position that we use to release deep seated tension in the sacral area, which when released can help loosen up higher areas in the back, neck and cranial (head) areas – this same position is also used for pregnancy massage. We also introduce some important stretches that can be combined with massage.

Many massage schools regard pregnancy as a contra-indication to massage, at the BRSNT you will learn how massage in pregnancy is natural and can be highly effective and you will be taught how to do this safely.

By this stage in the course you will be growing in confidence and will be impressed by how effective you can already massage.

Day 4 of the course is spent combining the techniques performed in the last 3 days perform a complete massage and is spent examining how the tension in the muscles on the front of the body can hold the muscles on the back of the body tight.

On the afternoon of Day 5, the teachers will conduct a practical assessment to sure that students understand the concepts taught, this will involve assessing your practical massage skills, maybe even giving the tutor a massage so that your massage
can be experienced by them! At the end of this first week, provided that you have understood and can demonstrate the techniques and satisfy the professional conduct requirements of BRSNT then you will qualify at the introductory level with a Raynor Massage Certificate.

Week Two

Day 1 of the Massage Diploma week will look in further detail at the practitioner/client interaction including each student taking a case history and giving a full massage to suit the client's needs within a specified length of time.

During this treatment the teacher will carry out a formative assessment and give feedback to the student to highlight areas that each individual needs to develop further. This will give the student a focus for the areas that they will need to work on during the next 4 days of the course.

On Day 2, the teachers will introduce the use of aromatherapy oils to the treatment. They will cover the properties and use of some of the most commonly used aromatherapy oils. You will be taught how to diagnose which oils are suitable for particular clients and learn the contraindications of each oil. You will learn how
to mix oils to their correct blending ratio.

You will then experiment with their use during practice with both deep tissue massage and also lighter massage, mixing oils to suit the needs and nose – of your massage partners.

Day 3 of the diploma week will be the reflexology course day. We will learn reflexology areas of the feet and the hands. You will explore the importance of the feet and hands in massage and how they affect and benefit the whole treatment.

The zone theory of reflexology and the use of reflexology charts will also be discussed. You will then both carry out and experience this powerful and relaxing reflexology massage.

Day 4 of the course will concentrate on the specific aspects of face and massage and the use of acupressure points in the head to help alleviate stress, tension, headaches, neck problems. We will explore the relationship between releasing tension in the head and the effect this has in helping release the emotional tension stored in the belly and chest. This incredibly relaxing day of massage inevitably results in a good night sleep. Before the final day of the course we wouldn't advise planning any evening activities or operating heavy machinery after this day!

The final day of the course will involve any final revision necessary, as well as a 50 point assessment which will grade each student on the following qualities: empathy, communication, techniques, professionalism, correct pressure, and overall effect. The last day of the massage course will see us invite friends and families of the students as well as members of the public to the class to get a massage. Your assessment will be based on you understanding of the role of the patient in the three categories of communication, understanding the importance of breathing with a practitioner, and on your proper understanding and appreciation of the benefits of massage. At the close of this day, having passed your assessment, you will be awarded the Diploma in Raynor Massage Therapy.

Cultural & Religious issues

If for religious or cultural reasons you need to train with a teacher of your own gender, this is possible as this course will be team taught. Likewise if for these reasons you need to remain clothed while you are being massaged this is not a problem, however others on the course will partially undress but always be covered by towels.

I liked the fact that this course was not bogged in bookwork and theory. I gained a lot of skills and confidence. This is a real genuine school!

We design our courses with you, the consumer, therapist and potential
practitioner in mind. We seek to teach you as much about massage and
facilitate you being able to perform an excellent massage therapy
treatment in as small amount a time as possible. We do this by not
teaching you things that will distract you from the fundamental
qualities that make up an excellent massage therapist.

We don't believe that reciting Latin names for muscles or knowing the
names of the every bump in every bone is what it takes to be an
outstanding massage therapist. Nor do we believe that being able to do
the same set of routine moves on every client in a mechanical fashion
will make it so that clients go away feeling that they have just had
the best massage treatment they have ever had.

We believe that the qualities that make a good massage therapist are
based on the practitioners ability to feel exactly where muscle
tension lies and the ability to get rid of it. This is the main focus
upon which we design our massage course. We also, of course, teach all
the contraindications to massage, hygiene, professional ethics etc but
the practical part of our course is totally focused on finding muscle
tension and getting rid of it. In order to get rid of tension we
recognize that one part of the body affects another so often times we
need to source the root of tension in the body and loosen it just like
pulling a weed out from its roots in the garden.

In this way we keep the focus of our training on teaching you to be an
excellent massage therapist without getting you sidetracked into
unnecessary details that can actually make you lose your focus you
from the main emphasis of what it takes to be a proper massage
therapist. Just like a good cook knows more about the look, feel,
smell and taste of food than he/she does about the chemical
composition of the food, the proper massage therapist is an artist who
has a feel for muscles and a sense for the subtle energy systems of
the body rather than they have a rote learned knowledge of every latin
name for each muscle.

I would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending this course to others. The teachers were very approachable and easy to understand. The teacher's demonstrations were highly impressive.

Would you like to learn massage in a way that respects massage as an
ancient art form and doesn't bore you by making a massage course into
just a scientific jargon filled class that teaches you so many things
that you really don't need to know just to make a course longer and
make more money for the massage school? If you don't want to do a
course like this then you may consider learning massage at Brandon
Raynor's School of Natural Therapies in Singapore.

massage therapist. We will teach you only what it takes to make you
into an outstanding world class massage therapist. We will keep you
focused on practical skills and teach you massage techniques from
around the world including techniques from styles such as Hawaiian

incorporates the best of massage techniques from all over the world,
plus incorporates many powerful techniques developed by Brandon
Raynor, a Naturopath who has trained extensively in Eastern forms of
natural therapies such as Ayurveda and Chinese and Japanese Medicine.
Brandon Raynor has traveled all over the world researching massage
styles and techniques and adapting the best of those techniques into
his unique form of massage called Raynor massage.

Our massage courses in Singapore are focused on practical learning. Almost 85% of class time is spent massaging, being massaged, or watching the teacher do a demonstration massage. The other 15% of class time is spent discussing theory such as contraindications, hygiene, professional ethics and the qualities of various aromatherapy oils and the theory of foot reflexology

Our massage style is considered to be a form of very deep tissue
massage. However when you learn our style you will be able to adjust
it totally to suit the particular needs of the patient. So you will be
able to do a light relaxation style of massage as well as a very
powerful and effective deep tissue massage that incorporates a lot of
pressure points and is able to get rid of the deepest seated tension
that many people hold throughout their body.

I was excited to get out of bed each morning to attend the course. My heart was filled and friendships were made.Thank you for the inspiration. Thank You for the guidance. I feel like a healthy child.

In fact, we don't teach a routine form of massage. What we do is teach
people how to find the tension in a persons' muscles and how to get
rid of that tension. We show people how one area of tension in the
body can affect another area and we will show you how to effectively
get rid of that tension. We show you not just how to massage the
common areas of the body that most massage therapists do such as the
back, legs and arms but we also show you the importance of feet and
hand massage, face and scalp massage and most important of all -
abdominal massage.

The abdomen in Chinese medicine is considered to be the centre of the
person's being so massaging the abdomen can have a very beneficial
effect upon the whole person. For many people abdominal massage can
"bring out" a lot of old emotions that are held there. This "emotional
release" can be very beneficial for the person as old patterns of
stagnation, both physically and emotionally are released.

Please inquire with our staff at info@brandonraynor.com for more information.

Even though I dont speak English well I found this course excellent. I now have a very good base of knowledge for this style of massage.

Testimonials

Here are just some testimonials from the many graduates of our massage courses.

A testimonial from Brandon Raynor's Diploma course in Singapore

I was looking for a massage course that was intensive yet of quality and where I would walk away with the experience and knowledge to begin massaging clients straight away. I am not a theory person and learn best with hands-on lessons. I had my doubts about any course being able to provide me with these criteria. I signed up anyway, booked a hostel and ticket, flew to Singapore (from my temporary home in Taiwan) and turned up on the first day of training.

The class turned out to be even better than I ever could have hoped for. 3 students the first week, 2 the second and therefore plenty of personal attention from our trainer, who, I might add, certainly wasn't in possession of large muscles or any kind of bulk for that matter. Susie Toh turned out to be tiny woman looking many years younger than her age, who (though I still wonder how!) certainly had enough power within to make even the biggest man sigh and sometimes squirm or squeak under her knowing touch. She is a wealth of knowledge and a treasure to have as a trainer. Completely selfless, she answered absolutely any question, whether relevant to the immediate situation at hand or not, clearly and with no doubt whatsoever.

Under her tutelage I quickly improved, chewing and swallowing every morsel of information, every stroke, every pressure point that I could. By the second week we were massaging the public every day, and although a little nerve-wrecking at times, as long as you remember you are a student and you ARE allowed to make mistakes, you will quickly gain confidence and experience at massaging different body types. Some clients made me sweat a little more than others (from the effort) but as Susie says 'Use more elbow!!'. Even as students, the public we massaged enjoyed the massages greatly and asked if there were any more open spots that needed to be filled, since they really wouldn't mind coming back for another!

On evaluation day I was saturated with knowledge and experience and felt quite confident (though a little nervous!) about the massages I was required to do. I had no trouble doing the 1 and a half hour massages although I wasn't perfect, but then who is?

The course was exactly what I had been looking for; intensive, quality, hands-on and accredited to boot. I did the course with either a part-time or full-time career in mind when I make another move, this time to Holland in March 2007. I fully believe that it is within my reach, especially since I have many eager friends hinting or openly shouting out that they really, really want me to use them for practice.

This course will teach you deep-tissue massage along with relaxation techniques that made each of our public clients say they enjoyed it immensely and it's a cut above the other styles of massage they've had. They'd come back for seconds and thirds and THAT is what you want!!

Today, more than ever before, people are realizing how massage can make a profound difference to their health and wellbeing. The benefits of Raynor massage are numerous and extend into many aspects of daily life from a general feeling of wellbeing to getting rid of many of the common aches and pains that plague many of our lives. Raynor Massage works wonders on emotional conditions and is one of the best remedies to treat anxiety, deep seated emotional disturbances and stress.

On a physical level, Raynor massage can heal many chronic injuries and old aches and pains, Repetitive Stress Injury (RSI), pinched nerves, sciatica, muscular spasms, stiffness, migraines, backaches, sore necks, arthritis, scoliosis and some types of immobility. Other benefits of Raynor massage are enhanced general performance of the body's organs and systems, increased energy levels and optimized performance, clarity of mind and good health.

Many cases of Pre Menstrual Syndrome have been helped by Raynor massage and our emphasis on abdominal massage, as well as many chronic digestive complaints, where deep seated tension in the small or large intestine has interfered with the normal function of these organs. On an emotional level people often carry around emotional "issues" in their body that have manifested as physical tension in places such as the abdomen and hips. Releasing the physical tension, and using the persons' breath, can help rid the person of this old emotional baggage that causes them to be "stuck" or "weighed down" in their approach to life.

Many people who undertake our massage course, as well as the patients/clients of our graduates experience these "emotional releases". After these emotions and the tension associated with these have left the person the person feels lighter, their eyes look brighter and they generally feel better able to take on the challenges of the world.
