Swedish Massage Therapy was developed by Dr Ling in the 1830s. Originally it was designed to increase circulation and blood flow hence most of the massage techniques used in this style are done towards the heart in the idea that the heart will cleanse the blood of the toxins stirred up by the massage movements.

There are six basic strokes: effleurage, petrissage, friction, tapotement, compression and vibration. Many of these Swedish massage techniques are used in Raynor massage, along with many other techniques from therapeutic massage, deep tissue massage, reflexology and shiatsu.

Swedish massage, in its traditional form, is a relaxing form of massage, generally done at a light to medium level of pressure. It is a very simple form of massage to use and it is easy to learn Swedish massage. Sometimes it sounds more complicated than what it actually is, due to the use of French terms to describe the movements.

Raynor masssage uses deep Swedish massage techniques such as circular friction movements, effleurage, and vibration movements to achieve its overall goal of totally relaxing every muscle in the human body.

Swedish massage therapy , which is also known as classical massage, has many useful massage techniques but it is more effective for treating deep seated problems in a person when combined with other massage techniques such as acupressure.

If a person learns massage in the Raynor style then they will also be quite capable of doing a very effective Swedish massage treatment. Raynor massage is more advanced than Swedish massage so if a person learns massage in our courses then they will not have to complete a separate Swedish massage course, they will be quite capable of doing a fantastic Swedish massage with Raynor massage. Raynor massage can be made lighter to produce a form of Swedish Massage. Courses include a lot more techniques of massage too.

Interestingly, Swedish Massage is not called Swedish massage in Sweden.
